Scars and stretch marks

Scars are marks that appear on the skin when it repairs itself following an injury, surgery, a burn or a poorly extracted pimple, for example. The healing process leads to the formation of tissue that is not identical to the one it replaces and surrounds it. This fabric is often less functional, more rigid and more sensitive to certain factors such as the sun. The scars can be visible and bother some people.

Some examples

Flat or white scars are the most common and are often caused by minor wounds, scrapes, cuts or insect bites. Initially, the scar may appear red and raised, but it often fades over time and may become almost invisible. However, in some cases, the scar may remain visible and bothersome, especially if it is located in a visible area or if it is larger.

Atrophic scars may be more difficult to fade than flat scars. They are dug into the skin and give an irregular and sometimes deep appearance to the affected area. These scars can be caused by skin diseases such as acne or chickenpox, but also by deep wounds or surgical interventions. As with all scars, it is important to take care of the affected area by protecting it from the sun and maintaining good hygiene to promote healing. If the scar is very visible or if it affects a person's quality of life.

Stretched scars are long and slightly indented. They occur when the elasticity of the skin reaches its limit during stretching. Stretch marks are the most well-known scars of this type.
